Police say item found in graveyard 'suspected gun'

A suspected firearm has been found by police close to a graveyard in the Ardmore area of Londonderry.

It was discovered on Wednesday in the vicinity of the cemetery in Rushall Road.

It has been removed and will undergo forensic examinations.

“It is shocking to think this suspected firearm was left in the vicinity of a graveyard, a place where people visit and pay their respects to loved ones,” Det Insp Walls said.

Those responsible had shown a “blatant lack of respect for local people and the local community," the officer added.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
